Dearest Tuffy boy,
You came into our life at 8 weeks old, a little tiny terror. Chuck said he didn’t want another dog, but then he picked you up and held you, and I knew he was in love with you. You were a birthday gift to me, but you were really his little boy. The first thing you did when you got home was pick up a leather glove, which was bigger than you were, and growled your little heart out, which is why you were named Tuffy! You were so excited and the world was yours. You took over the reins as man of the house from Mac when he went to Rainbow Bridge. You loved root beer and would take a lap, then back up and bark because the bubbles went up your nose and tickled. We could pick you up and rub underneath your chin and you would growl, and then you would immediately give us kisses. You loved your toys and your “love bear,” which you ran to immediately anytime we returned from a trip. You guarded the house and the yard, and sat on the back of the sofa to survey your domain out front, and friends and others would drive by and tell us how handsome you were. In the last year of your life, when getting on the sofa to nap was difficult, you would come to my side and tap me and when I looked around, you would look at me with those sparkling eyes and run to the sofa, to tell me that is what you wanted. You were faithful to me all day long while I worked, and you guarded the girls and me like a champ. There are so many memories, our hearts are full of them, and we will wrap ourselves in those memories to keep us warm and remind us of you. You were a very proud dog, and carried yourself tall. As you got older, and the allergies and other health issues became a problem, you were so stoic about all the tests we put you through. The day you went to Rainbow Bridge, you were in pain, and didn’t feel like giving kisses, yet I think you knew I needed that from you, as on the way to the vet, you lifted your sweet face to mine and licked me all over, giving me those gentle kisses I really needed and a happy wag of your tail. We’ll miss you so much, little friend. We miss you already, each time we sit down, because you would immediately get up and come and lie down beside us. You were insistent in your desire to have us pet you and love you up, you would take your little nose and lift our hands and keep pushing on us until we kept on petting you. You were a gentle, faithful, brave, handsome, sweet little boy, and we will love you forever. You had many nicknames, Tuffy Boy, Tuff Tuff, Scoobie Doo, Scooter, Tuffy Toes, and many more, but most of all, you were just Tuffy, our little polar bear. Until we see you again at Rainbow Bridge, have fun with Mac and Bonnie, now that your health is restored, and wait for us. We love you from now to the ends of the earth. Thanks for you! All our love, Deb, Chuck, Mollie and Maddie
