After a long, hard fought battle with Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma, we lost our dear, beloved 9 1/2 Y.O. White Standard Poodle, Riley on May 23rd, 2013. The WSU Vet Hospital and all the staff and particularly Dr. Janean Fidel, were absolutely wonderful to Riley and our family. They did everything possible to try to heal him. We still have Riley's black brother and litter mate, MAC who is doing fabulous. Thank you so much for all you do! And I could not go without mentioning and sincerely thanking our local Vet, Dr. Twyla Brown, a graduate of WSU College of Veterinary Medicine and a staff member of Animal Hospital of Newport Hills. Dr. Brown was so sweet to Riley and took amazing care of him from the time he was 3 years old, but was especially caring and diligent during the 7 months we all tried to save Rye. After having 1/2 of his lower jaw removed, chemo and radiation, we thought we had him cured. This aggressive type of cancer eventually returned devastated the rest of his lower jaw. He fought hard and we had many good days together and many very difficult days and nights. We visited Dr. Brown regularly, on a moment’s notice at times. She was always available to help Riley! Eventually he could he no longer could eat or drink. Dr. Brown and I made the difficult decision to put him out of his suffering. It was one of the saddest and most difficult days of my life, but Dr. Brown did such a wonderful job and was so sweet to him at the end! She made it much easier than I had anticipated. We all miss Riley terribly! He was an amazing Poodle!
