Rushton, our 3rd golden retriever over the past 26 years, passed away last week, after more than 14 ½ years of enriching our lives. He joins Willapa and Cappie in our fondest memories. He had been diagnosed with a nasal carcinoma, and we spent the last month focused on his quality of life. We have such deep and enduring memories of his life with us. He was always happy, goofy, loved removing the squeakers from toys, rolling on his back, wading into the water and barking at everyone else for swimming, snuggling with his peeps, and getting food from me at the table. He loved being close with his family and claimed ownership over his “boys.” We shared tremendous adventures from Seattle to Portland to Whistler to Willapa Bay and camping on the Oregon Coast and hiking in between. Although he was mostly my shadow, he had a unique relationship with all of us, including my parents. It will be challenging to navigate forward without him at our side, but we have his smile to guide us.
