Zeke
A donation was made in memory of Zeke by Rick and Andrew DeBowes on Oct 28, 2024.
To start off our story, we would like to thank Rick and Andrew DeBowes for their kindness and condolences when we lost our sweet boy, Zeke.
We got Zeke from a friend shortly after he was born after our other cat, Norman got out and passed away from a car incident.
Zeke was something special right off the bat. He was such a lovable kitten.
A couple weeks later, we adopted Maggie from the Lewis-Clark animal shelter and they became best friends. A couple years later, we adopted another shelter cat, Negan. Zeke was quick to allow Negan to cuddle with him. Zeke was the "dad" so to speak of the other cats.
Fast forward a couple more years and we took in a stay kitten who was maybe all of 3 weeks old that was left under an abandoned car. Zeke being Zeke took care of Ollie, the new kitten.
Zeke was more than just a cat. He was our world. He was the most loving and human like cat i have ever had.
The morning of October 22, 2024, I woke up as usual to get ready for work. Zeke slept at the foot of our bed every night. That morning though he wasn't there. He was by the door. I thought it was unusual but sometimes he was ready to get up before me. I bent down to pet him and instantly realized there was something wrong. It was 4:30am and none of the vet offices were available for emergency care so we had to wait until our vey office opened. He had suffered from a genetic heart issue and had a blood clot which paralyzed his back end. Unfortunately there was nothing that could be done and we had to say goodbye.
I will never forget that morning and I will definitely never forget Zeke. He was absolutely the best. He was there when my kids didn't feel good, he was there when he knew someone needed extra love. He was just not your normal cat. He was so much more.
Thank you again to Rick and his son for their compassion and thank you to WSU for allowing us to share our story. To some people, pets are just pets but to some of us, they are family. We love our animals with all of our hearts and strive to give them the best life they can possibly have. We are all they know their entire lives and I hope Zeke knew exactly how much he was loved while he was here.
