I believe that Chelsea was destined to be our dog, as she was a perfect fit for our family. We met her at the Humane Society of Skagit Valley, where she was abandoned by her previous family. She was 8 years old.
Chelsea made our family complete. Despite being tied up for most of her first 8 years, and therefore being territorial and aggressive toward other dogs, she was wonderful to cats and children (and everybody else). (She gradually came to enjoy the company of other dogs as we exposed her to many dog parks and took her on many hikes.) She was especially sweet to our son, who was able to grow up with her these last 5-1/2 years. They shared quite a bond when hiking, walking and eating. We all appreciated her cleaning up our son's food messes. That was a win-win situation for all.
We were blessed to spend the last 7 years with Chelsea. She gave us many fond memories; my fondest being how hard she worked to keep the family together on hikes. She scouted the trail and then herded the group, making sure no one was left behind, even if it meant she had to wait. She was loving, fun, entertaining, protective, and as my son says, 'The sweetest dog in the whole world.'"
