Skitters

Skitters found us on a warm summer’s eve. He seemed to know we’d help him, dehydrated and thin and almost completely bald. He had been closeted away in a neighbor’s attic and apparently eaten his own fur to survive. He came to stay in our garage, able to come and go as he pleased and adopted us long before we officially adopted him. The ultimate garden cat, he loved sitting with us in the sunshine, watching, but never harming the birds. When we moved across town, he accepted an indoor-only lifestyle, one he took to better than we could ever have hoped for. His fur returned and he grew handsome, and loved nothing more than a full belly and to sleep in the sun. He taught us about being a cat, us who have raised them all our lives and thought we knew it all. He left us on a warm summer’s eve just as he first appeared. Look for us someday, sweet boy, over in the garden where we’ll sit in the sun together and watch the birds.
