Duke Weber:
Duke, our mixed Red Heeler, came to us as a one month old puppy at the insistence of our youngest son. He quickly became a constant companion to both our sons as they grew up. Duke matured into a handsome, smart, gentle, and playful dog who was extremely quick and agile - a real athlete. He was the perfect soccer defender and helped hone our sons’ soccer skills in the backyard.
Duke filled a spot in our hearts that only a dog can and helped make our house a real home. Duke was the ever watchful guardian of the house and was the first face you would see at the door when you came home. No matter what kind of day we had, all cares and worries would melt away once Duke excitedly greeted us at the door.
Always ready for a walk, rain or shine, morning or night, Duke enjoyed the exercise and impatiently waited for us to be ready. His walking pace was often too fast for us, so whenever possible, he was off leash and chasing anything that moved. This usually included cats, other dogs, rabbits, squirrels, deer, coyotes, and even an occasional fly. His chasing was inherent in his genes and he loved it. What adventures we had on our walks. People would stop and admire Duke for his handsome looks and his beautiful golden red fur. Kids would always ask to pet him and were amazed how soft and thick his fur was. As a puppy, people would often ask if he was a fox, which would always make us laugh. Duke was our guardian, companion, confidant and devoted friend. We miss Duke greatly and will keep him close in our hearts until we see him again.
