Luna

A donation was made in memory of Luna by the doctors and staff at Loyal Family Veterinary Hospital on Dec 30, 2021.

Luna (AKA Lunacy, Lunafish, Fish Sauce, Da Sauce, Sunny Sauce, Da Boss, Girlfriend, Da Goat, Gatorface, Dragonette, the Huntress, the Rose, Foxita)

A petite husky, Luna was sweet and slightly aloof. She was rescued from an unethical breeder in 2007 at 6 months of age. She was bonded to her brother Shadow, who was her protector. She was a little shy in moments, but easily excitable. She had a strong streak of independence and confidence in her playful bursts of Husky energy. The baby was curious and warmed to people quickly, especially if there were treats involved.

She often seemed to have two speeds - cranked and zero. When she crashed she just went offline and was not easily disturbed. However, as she aged, she had more prevalent anxiety that would manifest with certain noises - the chirping of the smoke detectors, shoes that squeaked on hard floors, the vacuum cleaner, and fireworks, which would all night panic attacks.

She hoarded toys and treats and always wanted whatever Shadow had, even if she already had the same. She would gather and bury them in the couch, or if she could sneak them outside, in the yard. She could unstuff a toy in record time and was a first rate paper shredder. Similarly, she had a motherly trait whereby she ‘carried her unstuffed babies’ to wherever she was lying down next to her mom. She was quite the digger and mole huntress. She was mischievous, and the instigator often recruiting Shadow in her digging and shredding activities.

She was a Husky sun worshipper. Even in 80+ degree weather and black fur, she loved to bake in the sun. Or even better, dig a hole in the cool mud for the heat and cool contrast. She loved laying in the garden in a little pit she dug out.

For a husky, she was not much of a talker, though could be coaxed into a howling fest with Shadow. Her way of getting your attention was to poke you with her snout.

She and Shadow were super social with other dogs and often were used to introduce difficult dogs into daycare, because they weren’t dominant and generally played well with all their pup pals.
