Juno
A donation was made in memory of Juno on Sep 25, 2014.
Juno was a nine year old Flat Coated Retriever and our beloved family pet. Juno was the gentlest dog I have ever met and was amazing with children. He was the only dog allowed at our local elementary school. For six years we walked the kids to school and walked to pick them up and Juno came along. He loved greeting all of the children and would be surrounded by kids wanting to kiss and hug him and take him for a walk.
When Juno was about six years old I had him certified as a Therapy Dog through the organization Therapy Dogs International. He passed the entire test with flying colors the first try and was certified as a Therapy Dog. We chose to do our pet therapy at Highline Hospital in Burien, Washington. We spent two years at Highline visiting patients on the sixth floor every Tuesday – rain or shine. He quickly became a staff favorite and this August was awarded the Planetree Therapy Animal Award from the hospital for his unwavering support of patients and staff alike. He touched literally hundreds of lives in our two years at the hospital.
Unfortunately in March of this year he was diagnosed with an aggressive Sarcoma on his hip. Juno was given six to eight weeks to live. The day of his diagnosis I vowed to make the rest of his life amazing. The first thing we did was throw out his dog food and I started cooking. He ate a delicious diet of organic chicken and lamb with a variety of organic vegetables and healthy fats. Juno thrived for another five months – his energy improved, his coat was gorgeous and shiny and he was like a puppy again. He had never been happier and would sit in the kitchen while I cooked for him just waiting for his next meal.
Last month he took a drastic turn for the worst- developing another sarcoma on his shoulder that within a few days left him pain and limited mobility. Our family had committed to not letting him suffer and we made the painful decision to let him go on August 9th.
Our lives were so much better for having Juno for those nine years. He was the first dog I had ever had, and will remain the most amazing dog I have ever had.
