Basil was the love of my life. In July 2017, my sweet Basil was diagnosed with a severe case of cardiomyopathy and given only weeks to live. Thanks to his spicy stubbornness and an exceptionally dedicated Cardiology Care Team at WSU, I was lucky to have over 3 more years with him, at my side and in my lap. He was a miracle. He passed away peacefully at home earlier this month at the age of 15. I’m thankful I was able to hold him in my arms until his very last breath. Words can’t express the emptiness left by his passing - he was my best friend. Basil loved being outside & getting into the neighbor’s catnip; rolling in freshly cleaned sheets; and playing hide & seek. He was sassy and made others work for his affection. I take solace that he’s in heaven, waiting for me, in a chair that he’s been told him not to sit in.
