Rhonda

A donation was made in memory of Rhonda by Christie Anderson on Sep 01, 2010.

Rhonda was introduced to us by West Coast Rottweiler Rescue of Surrey, B.C., which had just started up. The rescue owner/founder after learning Rhonda's story really did not want to adopt her but keep her - however being a rescue organization working out of a condo, if the right fit came along she would let Rhonda be adopted. WCRR introduced her to us and definitely they did not want to let her go. However, new that there were many others to help and realized Rhonda was perfect for us.
Rhonda spent her life on a farm in the interior of B.C. Canada and was transfered with the property every time it was sold. Sometimes there were nice owners and sometimes not. When her last owner passed away no family member took on the property and Rhonda was left to find shelter in the ground and got periodic feedings from nice neighbors. Eventually she was submitted to a local shelter. Time was delayed for her more than most shelters try, just before she was due to be euthanized a volunteer of the shelter got in touch with WCRR ;, older Rottie which does not have a lot of chance to get adopted in a more remote area. WCRR got her transported to Vancouver and she had to go on a diet - obviously fed some junk food most of her life. We had her lovely company for 3 years. She was so easy, as old dogs just are, with 4 other dogs and 4 cats.
We first noticed a lump when Rhonda was put into a life jacket to go swimming. She had her spleen removed as well as the lump. All was well for a year. We did not know if there was any cancer at that point. Another year later a lump showed up, which resulted in an amputation of a limb. We did not put her on chemo at that time although it was an option. She did well and got around as usual. Happy girl that she is it did not make a difference nor to any of the other pets. It was 7 months before there was something that showed up.
When we got to Pullman at this point, I wish we had gone sooner. This is not a pitch for them but that we as parents should have realized the options of radiation and chemo are far less expensive than you would ever expect.(see info on *pet insurance which is always worth it, even if it is not perfect)
Our years with a dog like Rhonda were fantastic. Rhonda was more senior when she joined our family and we still dream about meeting her on the other side. Older dogs have so much to offer and are so overlooked. In her memory we donate to Old Dog Haven of Arlington, Washington as well as West Coast Rottweiler Rescue of Surrey, B.C., Canada. The picture here of Rhonda, was taken a few months ago with Bev, from West Coast Rottweiler rescue, who came to visit her.

*Pet Insurance: We do have pet insurance and the insurance company had covered 50% - note aside, most insurance companies cover a much higher percent up to 100%. I am glad to have insurance every time I have a new member in the
family, it helps.

Rhonda will surely be missed by all who had the pleasure to meet her.

Comments: Rhonda was such an amazing animal. She was kind and gentle and sweet. Even after living the kind of live she did, she still loved people. West Coast Rottweiler Rescue will be forever grateful to Alison & Damon for taking our Rhonda into their home and hearts. We know that they did everything in their power to help Rhonda. It is our prayer that every homeless dog find a place to rest with people like these too. Bev Inglis President WCRR
