Pepe

Some dogs have a drive like hunting or retrieving. Pepe, a little rescue Chihuahua, had only one drive and that was to love me. From the first time he saw me, his tail started wagging furiously as if he knew… He was in such bad shape when he came to me. He was almost starved, his fur was falling out, his spine showed through his skin and he had a very hard time standing. He seemed to relax from that very first night and his health improved over the next few months. Pepe returned the rescue several times. When I went through a divorce he was there, snuggling in my lap and giving all his love. When I got sick he cuddled up beside me and did his best to act like a tiny hot water bottle. When I was depressed he crawled up in my lap and sighed with contentment, just happy to be with me. Pepe saved me many times, just as I had saved him. Now that he’s gone there’s a hole in my heart that is so very hard to fill. Pepe loved completely and unconditionally and with a doggie goofiness that always made me laugh. Pepe, I love you and miss you.
