In Loving Memory of my Beloved Harry 6-Toes - ??-??-?? to 03-17-10.

Harry 6-Toes came to live with us in a round-about way. He showed up at a friends place, Carson's Arabians along U.S. Highway 12 in late summer of 2006. I believe that he was a man's traveling companion, this belief comes from the fact that Harry would sit on all the men in our family's laps, but not mine. I think he had somehow escaped unnoticed from the R.V., I'm still trying to figure out how you would miss the absence of a 17 pound pure white long haired, poly dactyl cat. Harry and the Carson's cat, Gray Ears didn't get along, so once again, Harry had to find a new home. The Carson's gave him to another friend of mine, Connie. Connie lives in Troy and the winters up there are long and cold, obviously something Harry wasn't used to. Connie had agreed to give Harry a home as a barn cat. Harry didn't want to live at her barn, he wanted to live in the house and went around clawing at the window screens to get in, this was unacceptable to Connie. Its my opinion, after getting to know Harry that he was trying to get in so that he could sit on Connie's husband, Clay's lap.
Connie mentioned to me that she was going to take Harry to the animal shelter. I just couldn't stand the thought of that and told her to bring him to me. I was working in Moscow, so Connie delivered him to me at work - he was too large to fit in a regular pet crate, so she tied two clothes baskets together to make a crate for him to travel back to my home in Lewiston. I should add that I already had 3 cats at my house and another 5 that had adopted me at my barn, but I'm a sucker for abandoned or lost animals and they know it, always showing up on my doorstep and of course I don't disappoint them, they are
always fed and taken care of. I couldn't sneak Harry in at the
house (pretty unlikely that my husband wouldn't notice him) so I took him to my barn to live with the other 5 barn cats. Harry Loved it at my barn and was King of the hay stack until June 1, 2009 when disaster struck in the form of Neon Dancer, the cat chasing pony. Harry was a mild mannered, loving creature, his short-coming was that he wasn't afraid of anything, not even the horses. Neon stomped Harry that evening and shattered both bones in his left front leg. I spent the next 6 months nursing him back to health, the leg didn't want to heal, we tried pins, a cast, and finally horizontal & vertical pins. It finally healed but by that time Harry 6-Toes had decided he didn't need that leg and was using three to get around the house quite nicely. Harry had no desire to go outside or back to the barn, he absolutely Loved being a part of our family and enjoyed all the attention lavished on him. He basically took over my husband's chair
- stretching out in it every chance he got, much to my husband's dismay since he's a dog person! The one thing I'll never forget about Harry 6-Toes was his love for talking on the phone. I know some of you will understand this, and others will think I'm plain crazy, but Harry was a talker and my daughter has a cat, Shasta, that is very vocal too and both of our cats would hang around when we talked to each other on the phone and meow so we started letting them talk to each other, it really was hilarious. Unfortunately the love and joy Harry 6-Toes brought to my life was short-lived as he had an enlarged heart that wasn't detected and on March 17, 2010 he threw a blood clot that lodged in his spine and paralyzed his hind quarters, he was in horrific pain and I was told the only thing I could do to ease his pain was to end his suffering by putting him to sleep. It was incredibly hard on me to lose him, we'd become so close, but I truly believe that God knew how much Harry wanted to be a part of a family and he also knew he didn't have much time left on this earth, thus enter, Neon Dancer and his dancing hooves and the avenue for which Harry 6-Toes would become a part of our family at the house to interact with us 24-7 instead of just a few hours each day while I was doing chores at the barn. I thank God for sending Harry to me. I'll never forget him, his huge paws that reminded me of hands in mittens, his meow and beautiful white fur that he loved me to brush. Harry 6-Toes your memory will live on in my heart forever. Until we meet again in heaven, maybe up there you'll decide to sit on my lap!
Your loving Mom, Julie.
