Bonnie

A donation was made in memory of Bonnie by Drs. White, Remsburg, Martzall and staff at Lower Columbia Veterinary Clinic on Apr 19, 2016.

My little Scottie, Bonnie, got sick a year ago, February, and was diagnosed with IMHA by the vet in AZ, where we were wintering. He started her on a heavy drug regime, but only gave her a 30% chance of survival. She was obviously sick, but so obedient and trying hard to please she took the meds and tried to act normal. A month later her sister Bitsy, a WH Dachshund came down with the same thing! She only survived 3 days from diagnosis. Bonnie was as devastated as we were, and searched for her for months. She slowly got better, and her lab work returned to normal, and she began to wean off the drugs. February and March were wonderful, she lost some of the Prednisone-induced weight, and she was happy, dancing with excitement for walks and treats, her shining eyes just alight. We were elated. We left AZ to return to WA the end of March, as usual, and the first day went fine. The second day she seemed "off", and sat up in her bed, staring at me intently, instead of curling up to sleep like she normally did. She ate very little dinner, and went to her crate. The next morning she refused to eat, but drank huge amounts of water, which she promptly vomited. We took her to the clinic immediately, where the vet confirmed the worst - her platelets were at 30, and we were doomed. She faced an even less chance of survival, and was so very sick again we just couldn't make her go through it again, and decided to end her misery. I have no doubt it was the best for her, but it has been bloody hell for us. A month later I am still crying every day, I miss her so much. She was such a sweet little girl, and tried so hard to please! When I got the letter from WSU saying my vet, Dr. J. Remsburg, had sent a donation in her name I was so touched - it validated Bonnie's struggle completely.
