Dozer

Dear Dozer,

Okay, even I'll admit that you weren't the best dog in the world. You didn't like to play catch or run at parks, and you always misbehaved on walks. But you were one of the great loves of my life, and I really believe that you and I were soul mates.

Remember that first night we brought you home? I, not knowing what a full grown boxer looked like until I met your mom, had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. But you happily rode home on my lap, wrapped up in a blue towel, played with Papi on the kitchen floor while I made dinner, and then curled up in your crate to sleep. Then I knew that, even though we got the last puppy in the litter, we got the best puppy.

We got Daisy because we thought you'd like a friend to play with, but she quickly took over and ran the house for the next eight years. You quietly let her have her way and grab most of the attention. But there are a lot of people who had a special love reserved just for you. Losing Daisy was very sad, but I'm glad that you got to come out of the shadows and be the only dog for the last year and a half of your life. We sure had some great cuddles, didn't we?

You were such a great friend, and it was an honor to take care of you as you became old and sick. My only regret is that it couldn't last for a couple more years. I think our son is too young to remember what an important member of the family you were. I guess we will rely on photos and stories to make sure he knows.

Sara B.
