Dacey

A donation was made in memory of Dacey on Jul 16, 2015.

Dacey was a Golden mix (mostly Golden with a little Lab) that I acquired at age 18 months. Dacey was a CCI Change of Career dog. She was raised to possibly become an Assist Dog. As it turned out she had “high energy” and it was decided by her puppy raiser that she could become my pet (lucky me).

She was a people magnet and brought joy to all those she came in contact with. She could make anyone melt with her big brown eyes and generous kisses. Dacey liked all dogs and a special cat named Lola. She had a bandana around her neck for all occasions and non occasions. She loved her treats, remembered every place she had gotten a treat before, and knew when to do that perfect “Sit” to get a treat. She was a good traveler and was a joy to take in the car.

Dacey had some looks that I called the inner Dacey – it was a communication thing that I understood and could read so well. I’m sure I had some that she could also read as well. Dacey became my soulmate, companion, and friend.

At the age of 9 years and 4 months (May 4, 2015) Dacey was diagnosed with a tumor on her thymus gland called a Thyoma. The thymus gland is located in the chest near the heart. Secondary to the Thyoma Dacey developed Myasthenia Gravis (a neuromuscular disorder) and Mega esophagus (enlarged esophagus). Surgery to remove the tumor was successful. Dacey was a fighter and for a month she did her best and the doctors did their best to treat the Myasthenia and Mega esophagus.

Dacey lost her battle with this terrible disease on June 1, 2015. I received a call from the doggie hospital Vet around 4:30 am that Dacey was in grave condition. When I arrived at the hospital she was intubated and getting oxygen. The Vet said she thought it was time to put Dacey down. I kissed Dacey, told her I loved her, and that she was a good girl. After that I gave them permission to put her down.

They brought Dacey in for me to hold before taking her away. What a loving and beautiful dog she was. I stroked her and cradled her in my arms. It was a blessing to have this amazing pet. A puppy raiser friend said she thought all dogs had a destiny and I was Dacey’s. It is with much sorrow and love that I write this tribute to my precious Dacey.
