Maggie

A donation was made in memory of Maggie on Sep 07, 2009.

She no longer greets us at the door -- doesn't join us in the kitchen, hoping to get (and usually getting) lucky -- no tail-wagging excitement at "bye-bye car" -- howling at sirens is a nearly-lost echo in the memory.
Maggie was a kooikerhondje, an old and rare Dutch breed. When young, she was unsure, mistrustful of most people, convinced the vet's folks were out to kill her,not merely trim her nails. She was over most of that by age 5.
Her personality was hers alone, as with all dogs, some inherited, the rest acquired. Chasing and eating bugs. Tossing tenny balls under the couch for us to retrieve with a broomstick (repeat several times). Never bit anyone -- ignored guests once they passed initial screening.
Maggie met an untimely death by eating bulbs of scilla (bluebells), a prolific plant in the NW and more toxic than foxglove. She ignored these plants for 7 years before taking the plunge -- we can only guess why. In her memory, please rid your dog's yard of scilla; it might save a life.
Hoping to meet at the Rainbow Bridge......
