One night we were looking for a cat for my mom and I saw Penelope was at the humane society. I watched her for awhile until another family (father and daughter) came by and took interest in her. We talked a bit and the father asked me if I thought a little Chihuahua would be easy to manage. I told him that she would be wonderful. I walked off so that I would not intrude on them and I could hear the daughter say "Mom doesn't want a Chihuahua dad." As we left that night empty handed, the father and daughter were in the process of adopting Penelope. The next night we went back to the humane society and Penelope was back! Apparently the mom got her way - no Chihuahuas. It broke my heart that Penelope was given up not only once but twice within days. Albeit there was probably no connection established overnight but must of been confusing to her; but what do I know? I know animals feel and I knew that it my heart hurt for her and that I wanted to take her home and protect her. I knew a lady who volunteered there and told her that I was going to take her home so she would never have to be given up again. How little did I know how much this little girl was going to mean to me. I loved her more than I could of ever imagined. Taking her home was the best decision I could have made. She was was spunky, cute as a button and that attitude! I wanted to protect her but she gave me back so much more. It was like she knew she had a second chance and she was so grateful. She was 9-years old when I adopted her. I had 5-years with her and they were the best! Penelope was the best dog one could ever of had and she is missed every day!
