Lucy went to rainbow bridge on August 11, 2011 after only being our dog for 21 months. We adopted her from a rescue group in the midwest in 2009 and she was everything we had hoped or dreamed for in a Labrador. Five months after we adopted her, she was diagnosed with a mast cell tumor and we were advised to take her to WSU for further treatment.
Lucy taught us so much, but mostly it was her enduring spirit and her ability to live in the moment that inspires us now.
The photo posted was taken two weeks before she passed away. Her end came quickly. She did not win her fight against cancer, but she went on her terms in her own way and did not ever let cancer dictate how she would live her life, which is exactly what we wanted for her and I know it is what she wanted for herself.
Every moment was a gift and I will always be thankful to the small animal oncology department at WSU, and Lucy's oncologist especially, for giving us that gift. They made photos like the one here possible. Without them, Lucy wouldn't have been able to go swimming that day.
There will never be another dog quite like Lucy for us and we will miss her every single day forever.
Run free my beautiful Miss Lucy Girl. We will always love you.
