Kiah came to me through the local sheltie rescue. She was my first double Merle. Deaf and visually impaired (surprisingly intact eyes but split pupils) but full of life and clueless she had a disability. Kiah instantly fit in my life with my 7 year old son, old cat Kaleela, and bi black sheltie Duncan. My son and she became instantly bonded, and oddly, she found ways of playing games with him. They literally played hide and seek, and I’ve never seen a dog so happy in all my life. She taught Duncan how to play because he was only used for breeding, plus he was terrified of his own shadow. Through the years, I rescued many other dogs. Each time she took on the role of the teacher in the classroom. She was such an amazing spirit. Her body had many odd issues, I think because of her breeding. She honestly let nothing stop her even when she got her ripped Achilles tendon. I never in 1 million years thought she would make it to 15 years old. She just wasn’t gonna leave me. Having to make the decision of letting her go has hit my heart in a way that no other animal has. I was her eyes and ears. She trusted me completely without any waver. Her loyalty spoke in silence. Her unending wave of love. The way each day she asked for a pet, a love hug. She was my beauty and I will forever miss her spirit.
