Paprika

A donation was made in memory of Paprika by Christie Cotterill and your friends at WSU on Nov 15, 2017.

On November 10, 2017, Paprika Morse crossed over the Rainbow Pet Bridge after gracing my life for 14 years, 7 months and 24 days. When a bright light signaled a new arrival over the Bridge, I believe the first to greet Paprika were Mustard and Nutmeg. He was soon re-united with generations of Morse/Schrader cats who are now frolicking together in the sunshine.

Paprika came to me from the Animal Rescue Foundation in Tucson-the moment he saw me he charged the cage and said “take me, take me”. He was such a great cat-loyal, inquisitive, brave and daring. He lived between Tucson, AZ and Port Ludlow, WA for 10 years, flying between each location for the season. He also traveled to the home I shared with my sister in Indiana for several visits. Four years ago he retired his “wings” and came to live on our third floor flat on Walnut Street in Edmonds, WA. No matter where in the world I traveled or how long I was gone, he patiently waited to hear my voice and be swooped up in my arms on my return. On Walnut Street he perfected the art of waiting for me at the elevator.

For the past several months Paprika suffered from diabetes and kidney disease and as he continued to decline, my care plan was a special version of kitty hospice with dignity so he could be comfortable and cared for at home for the remainder of his days. Paprika played a special comfort role in my life as he was with me through the illness and deaths of both of my parents, my dear husband, and most recently my sister. It is impossible to describe the solace he brought me during those times of loss.

It goes without saying that Paprika’s passing will leave a huge void in my life but I will forever cherish our years together and the unconditional love he always lavished on me.
