We brought Sam into our home at the beginning of Covid. We had lost our other pets, and especially with the isolation of Covid, wanted the love and light of an animal in our house! Sam was a rescue kitty who came from Tacoma Humane Society. He was about a year old at the time. We quickly found out he was an unusual cat, who had been traumatized somehow in his previous situation. He warmed up to us relatively quickly, but never had human contact with another person besides us. He wasn't affectionate in the traditional sense, but enjoyed our company and was almost always around. He wanted badly to be outdoors, but knowing it was dangerous, we got a tent for him to hang out safely in our backyard. We also got a leash and harness, and my husband, Steve, took him for several walks in the back yard each day. Sam loved exploring the back yard, and Steve enjoyed those relaxing, zen times with Sam each day. Steve became Sam's "person," and Sam followed him around the house, hung out next to him when he was reading, etc. Even though Sam was a strange cat, he was OUR strange cat, and we loved coming home to him greeting us at the door. We learned recently that his kidneys were failing, and we lost him at a young age - he was just 4 years old. It broke our hearts. We loved Sam a ton and he is sorely missed.
