Pattee

A donation was made in memory of Pattee by Drs. Molton, Batdorf, Stidham, Hamack and Meyer at Vista Veterinary Hospital on Jul 12, 2017.

We adopted Pattee Mae Knutzen on May 24, 2013. We had just lost our beloved cat Babie 3 days before. Her daughter Harlee was still with us and missing her mother. I started looking online for a cat to be a buddy for her. I found Patricia and we changed her name to Pattee on May 22nd. I fell in love with her. She was a challenge at first. She didn't know how to play and was very quiet. I started looking into her past. What I found out was quite a story. Pattee was from North Carolina. She had been found as an under 1 year old cat by Safe Haven. She didn't stay there long. She was adopted in July of 2008. Later she was adopted by possibly a family member of that owner. In March of 2013 she was surrendered by her owner of 6 years. She was at Benton Franklin Humane Society until May 24, 2013. After Pattee hid for a week in our bathroom, I decided to leave the bathroom door open and she slowly started to venture out. We taught her how to play. Her favorite toy would crackle. We had fun. There were times she was grouchy but all in all she was great. The first Christmas we had her she slept under the Christmas tree. She never tried to climb it. She just loved sleeping there. When everyone was gone for the day Pattee would jump on my bed and would watch tv. I called it Mom and Pattee time. She was doing so good. Then in 2015 and 2016 she seem to be in some pain. After going back and fourth to the vet some testing was done and my heart broke. She had early signs of kidney disease but I was optimistic. Pattee was a big girl and she was tough. Most of the year was really good. She was stable and happy. In December 2016 she got really sick. It was a UTI. I had to leave her at the hospital overnight. She came home the next day and was somewhat ok. From that point on I could see she wasn't feeling too great. Christmas came and she was still not herself. I got her toys but she didn't want to play too much. I prayed that she would start to get better. We had some good days but a lot of not so good ones. In May of this year I had to take my son to an appointment in Seattle. I arranged for Pattee to stay at Vista Vet Hospital for boarding. I had this feeling that something wasn't right. She was losing a little weight. So Dr. Molton did some tests and we found out that Pattee was in worse shape. Everything was going bad. She had an enlarged heart. Her kidney disease wasn't getting any better. And worse of all there was cancer. After I got the call I made the most painful decision. I didn't want my girl to suffer. We came home on May 8th and went to see her. I was given a lot of time. I held her in my arms and told her how much I love her. I still do. She was still pretty active. But because of her track record of going back and forth to the vet I decided to let her go. I cried for days. I had her cremated and put in an urn and sealed. My husband I buried her in our pumpkin patch. I talk to her every day when I look at my pumpkins. I love you Pattee. You took my heart and I will never forget you. My sweet Maine Coon Mix Girl.
