We brought Ziggy home when he was only a pup. We had a choice between him and a sleeping beagle. In spite of the fact that the kids had to stand on their chairs so he’d stop biting their shoes, they chose him. He was a Cairn with attitude. Toilet paper had to be taken off the roller and put out of his reach, shoes had to be hidden, and he ate the bindings of two library books. Once we went on a family vacation, and when we picked him up from boarding, he refused to stop jumping and broke his leg. He wouldn’t pooh unless you took him on a walk, even in the winter snow. He was a challenge, but we loved him. He loved visitors, rides in the car, Halloween Trick-or-Treaters, Jolly balls (which he would sink his teeth into), and destroying any toy with a squeaker. As he grew older his health problems included Cushings, diabetes, and blindness. As he got older he put up with all of the testing and medications that came his way. When he began to have trouble completing his usual walk, we got him a stroller. He loved it! He’d stand as he rode in it - stroller surfing. For fifteen years he was a beloved member of the family, and we miss him.
