Hank

A donation was made in memory of Hank by Joan Anderson and Barbara Quintana on Mar 09, 2021.

Our beloved Hank, a Schipperke, died on March 8, 2021. He took a lot of light out of our world when he died, He brought so much joy into our lives when he joined our pack at age 10. He had been much loved by his human dad, a sailor, and Hank had travelled the country with him. Coming to our house, he became our cornerstone dog with his younger sister. He showed us resilience when his whole world was turned upside down. He was brilliant, loyal, curious, wonderful with kids, and he had great impact on all the people he met or who heard about his story. He was the only dog we ever had who loved costumes; he was a ham with the camera. He won several tricks and costumes contests, bringing keychains, mugs, dog treats, and gift certificates to our home. He was an enthusiastic supporter of Old Dog Haven's Annual Fundraiser, with Team Hank bringing in hundreds of dollars. Hank died in our arms at home, with a vet coming to the house. The first time we ever did that, but a lot of things were the first time with Hank. This vet helped us establish a caregiving team of accupuncture, hydrotherapy, and medications which helped. But when these measures began to fail and could not keep his pain at bay, when we saw that faraway look in his eyes, we knew it was time to release him from the body that could no longer work. We held him at home for his last day, he was relaxed; he didn't have the fear or tension that all our dogs have had a vet offices. Our other two dogs lay next to him as he slipped away from earth, but secure in our arms, and forever in our hearts.
