COOKIE

BORN Jan. 1, 2009

Died Aug. 31,2010

Cookie was brought into our home during Feb. 2009 by my son, who moved a month later leaving the her with me. I already had a rabbit called: Bunnyopolis & 10 months later got a Guinea Pig called: Mr. Guinea, all were pets left with me when my 2 children grew up and went to college. Cookie quickly attached to me as her care giver and I quickly learned she was bored in her small cage so I went out and bought her a big fancy one. I also got a clear plastic ball for her to run in, since she had so much energy. She and Bunnyopolis became fast friends and always sought each other out and would play for hours every night. Bunny would get very excited when it was evening time and he would hop on top of him cage (his kitchen really, he's a house rabbit, house trained, loose all the time) that is where Cookie's cage sat on top of. And he would watch me pick up Cookie and she would cimb off of my hand into her plastic ball. Bunny would hop down and Cookie would take off rolling in her ball with Bunny chasing her, friends and family always laughed when they saw this. She loved being chased. When Bunny would tire out, she would ram her ball into him, and Bunny loved it, he would stretch out on the floor like a lion and sometimes would corner her so she would have to bump his back, feet, and even head. When it was feeding time all 3, Cookie, Bunnyopolis, & Mr. Guinea knew it. They had a bedroom in the house of their own where they hung out even when they were lose they stuck together. I fed Mr. Guinea first since he really loved his food, then Bunny next, and Cookie would ram her ball into my feet reminding me not to forget her. (I never did, it was her routine.) Hamsters don't live long which is really sad because it always seems too soon to lose them. Pretty soon I noticed Cookie was sleeping later everyday. And when I put her in her ball she would roll the ball next to Bunnyopolis and the two of them would sit there together until it was time to put her back. One day I notice her fall over when she was climbing, it seemed she had lost her balance, which she always had great balance. I rearranged her cage so it was easier to climb around in. A few weeks later I noticed she wasn't eating much so I took her out and had her walk around to see how she was and she was wobbly when she walked. Once again I rearranged her sleeping den and placed it this time in the bottom of the cage since she could no longer climb well. I took her to the Vets. and I was told she was sick and they prescribed an antibiotic for her. Cookie readily took the antibiotic, she sensed it was good for her, and she got better for a couple of days. Then she no longer wanted to swallow the medicine, she worsened. I gave her water through and eye dropper, and placed food in her, sleeping den. Early one morning, I checked in on her, and I noticed she shook trying to keep her balance while sitting. I took her out of her sleeping den and place her on the bed, and she fell over and couldn't get up although she really tried (she hated being on her back) so I set her upright. Bunny hopped over and looked at her, and she sat there very ill, Bunny wouldn't leave, I picked up Cookie and put her into her sleeping den and took it from the cage. I realized Cookie could no longer feed herself, drink water and was suffering too much. With a heavy heart I took Cookie to the Veterinarians and asked what could be done, I already knew. I asked if they could put her to sleep in her sleeping Den since this is home to her and she always stayed in it whenever I had to clean the cage. They said yes, they could, that they used anesthesia and it would fit. They brought Cookie back to me and said the her time was very near when I had brought her to them. I brought her home, then drove off to the store and picked out a small bouquet that featured a white rose in the center. I prepared a small box and lined it with timothy grass the type she loved sleeping on. I placed a small glass heart with a ruby in the center of it as a token of my love to this wonderful pet left with me. I placed a White rose on top of where I buried her. It's been over a week and when evening comes Bunny still looks for Cookie, sometimes he thinks he hears her and he begins searching for her in the house. In the past whenever Cookie got lose all I had to do was say,"Where is Cookie?" And he knew her name and Bunnyopolis would keep looking for her till he found her. And he always did. But not this time. I have now begun to let Mr. Guinea out of his large Guinea compound (big pen area) so he will interact more with Bunny since Mr. Guinea is so shy. I have rearranged their bedroom so Bunny won't sit there all night looking for her. Bunny is beginning to get over it. I guess it's time for me to rearrange my house.

This is the eulogy I wrote for Cookie and said when I buried her and although it seems silly for a grown man to feel this way. We are all made different and to me a life is a wonderful thing and a sad thing to lose.

FINAL WORDS FOR OUR BELOVED

HAMSTER, COOKIE:

Here lies our beloved pet named Cookie. She brought joy and entrainment to every one that met her. Her needs were small, but her love of people and her fellow pet friends was large. Whenever she escaped from her cage, she always sought me out and was never too far. She sought the company of her friends Bunnyopolis who loved her and she would play with him and would rest with him. She would entertain Mr. Guinea by running her ball back and fourth in front of his pen and he would watch and come out to visit with her.

She is a lovely pet brought to us through the works of God that further helped us appreciate his works and filled our lives with wonder. She will be very missed by all because she was so full of life, curious, full of energy, full of love. Lord I pray, in the end she knew how very loved she was, because love is the greatest gift we have to give.

TO YOU COOKIE I LAY YOU INTO YOUR FINAL RESTING PLACE INTO THE EARTH AND UNDER SUN THAT GOD CREATED WITH LOVE, SO THAT WE MAY LIVE AND LOVE UNDER THE CANOPY HE CREATED FOR ALL: MAN AND CREATURE NO MATTER HOW BIG OR SMALL, WE ARE FOREVER IN HIS DEBT THANK YOU LORD FOR THIS LOVELY HAMSTER CALLED: COOKIE, THE LITTLE HAMSTER WITH A BIG HEART.
