Our Scooter D. was a "pound puppy" we adopted. Inspired by my Grandchildren's questions of why no one wanted him led me to write a children's book. The story tells about our adorable Dachshund who gets lost. It is his tales of adventure! My book is filled with photos of Scooter D. and even his Kennewick, WA Veterinarian Kathy Batdorf. Scooter's adventure of being lost and the importance of knowing "Who You Are" has two learning lessons: one for children and one for pet owners.
I became a "Grandma on the run" as I tucked Scooter D. under my arm and read his story to little ones. Scooter loved being in classrooms and at our local library with the children. I donated money, from the sale of my book, to our local animal shelter where we adopted Scooter D.
Scooter D., though small in size, gave back so much! Not just to our family, but to every student that hopefully learned his message in the book. He enjoyed all the pets and attention he got from the kids! The little dog from the pound was leaving his "paw print" everywhere we went!
Vista Veterinary in Kennewick, WA donated to WSU in honor of our Scooter D. We also want to extend help to other animals in his sweet memory. We will be sending a personal donation to WSU's Memorial Program.
Thank you for allowing me to tell you about our dog. Although he is gone we still ponder the question, "Who Is Scooter D.?" To us he was a "Heartbeat at our feet".
